What is the InVenture Prize?
The InVenture Prize is Georgia Tech’s premier undergraduate innovation competition where students present their inventions, compete for prize money, and gain mentorship and exposure.
Who is eligible to compete?
You can apply if you are a (1) a current Georgia Tech undergraduate student working toward your Bachelor's degree, or (2) a recent graduate (Spring, Summer, or Fall of the year prior to your application, e.g.: for the 2026 competition - graduates from Spring, Summer and Fall of 2025 were eligible), and as long as your invention was conceived while you were an undergraduate at Georgia Tech.
Can I compete as part of a team?
Yes! You may enter as an individual or as part of a team.
Are there limits on team participation?
Each student can only be part of one team.
Each student/team may submit only one invention.
Is there a team size limit?
Yes, teams can have up to 6 members.
Can I have teammates from other universities?
Unfortunately, no. Only enrolled undergraduate GT students or those who have recently graduated from their undergraduate degree at GT are eligible to compete. External students can advise and contribute to the work on the invention, however, they will not be eligible to formally register, compete on stage or receive any award money directly from us, when applicable.
What qualifies as an invention?
Your submission must be an original student invention that you (or your team) created.
Can my idea come from a class, research lab, or co-op?
Yes, these are allowed, but you must fully disclose all contributors, resources, and context during registration. You must own the Intellectual Property of your submitted invention.
My startup already has funding, can I still compete?
You are eligible only if your venture has not raised more than $100,000 in total funding (including grants, competitions, loans, friends/family, etc.).
Do I need to own the invention?
Yes, students must be the original creators or owners of the invention’s intellectual property.
Can I enter if my invention is university-owned IP?
No, projects that qualify as university-owned IP are not eligible for the competition.
How do I apply?
You’ll submit an online application describing your invention, your team, and additional information that the organizers need to have.
When does registration open and close?
Registration opens in the fall semester (usually early or mid November) and closes by the posted January deadline. Full schedule can be found at https://inventureprize.gatech.edu/schedule
Do I need a prototype?
A prototype is not required to progress in the competition, but it can strengthen your presentation and pitch.
Are there resources to help build my prototype?
Yes, in addition to various makerspaces at GT, that are available free of charge to students, a team may also apply to receive a Prototype Award of up to $500 to support materials and development. More information can be found at https://sites.gatech.edu/ouess-e2l/innovation/prototype-awards/
What does the competition look like?
The InVenture Prize includes 3 main rounds:
- Preliminary round (Capstone-style gallery judging)
- Semifinal pitch round
- Final live competition with top teams - Shark Tank style, broadcast live on TV!
In addition, there are designated events to help teams prep for each stage of the competition and perfect their pitches.

What if I’ve never pitched before?
That’s okay! Many students are new to pitching. The process is designed to help you refine your idea and communication skills.
